á      Suggested Uses of the Multimedia Production

o   Online Learning

As we move away from the passive learner model to the student centered, active learner model of learning, multimedia educational productions will become very important to modern education.  The educator is slowly becoming a facilitator of learning, rather than the provider of education.  E-learning puts the student in the ŇdriverŐs seatÓ when it comes to learning.  The more advanced student will be able to explore and learn much more than what is presented in the traditional classroom.

Suggestions for using this multimedia production as an on-line independent study include:

¤  Assign this multimedia production to the nursing students to be completed within a two week time period. 

¤  Instead of attending class in a traditional classroom, the student can assess the site at his/her convenience, as it fits into his/her lifestyle.

¤  As a nursing educator, make sure that you are accessible to your students through e-mail, voice mail, and telephone.  Post office hours in case a student would like to personal visit. 

¤  You may also set up a discussion board to encourage exchange of ideas, issues, problems, and comments among students.  You can moderate the discussion board and offer comments as necessary.

o   Blended Learning

Parts of this multimedia instruction can be easily adapted for use in the traditional classroom.  Parts of this multimedia production can be used separately to enrich the classroom learning environment.

 Suggestions for incorporating this multimedia production into an in-class lesson include:

¤  Assign Lesson One of this multimedia production to the nursing students to be completed within a two week time period.  Instead of attending class in a traditional classroom, the student can assess the site at his/her convenience, as it fits into his/her lifestyle.  Lesson Two can be presented in the traditional classroom.  The Power Point presentation can be used to present the information to the entire class at the same time. 

¤  The videos can be used in class to demonstrate the proper procedure for medication preparation and administration of an intramuscular injection.  This is a very cost effective way for nursing students to learn important clinical techniques outside of the actual clinical environment.

¤  The videos can be used to stimulate discussion among students regarding proper techniques for medication preparation and administration of intramuscular injections.

¤  After the student nurses complete the online independent study, the educator can assess student learning and comprehension by using the assessment tool (10 multiple choice questions) in class and directly from the website.  The educator could incorporate the use clickers so students could answer anonymously.
